Surrogate Mother

Wow, what a year! My first year teaching is under my belt and my family has several exciting opportunities coming up. The one I would like to discuss here is my desire to become a surrogate mother (gestational). I loved being pregnant, had no trouble conceiving, and flawless pregnancies. Because of this I think it would be wonderful to help another couple create their family. So far my own family seems supportive and I have gotten the ball rolling with an agency. The only problem is that I won't know if I am available until mid-August. If anyone out there is interested in a surrogate mom from Kentucky please email me or reply so we can get to know one another.

Have you ever been a gestational surrogate mother before? If not, how much research have you done? If its just an idea right now, mid-August seems pretty soon. There is a lot of research to do before you begin looking for a couple to help. Having been a surrogate twice, I know that if you jump into surrogacy without that research, you WILL live to regret it.

Spend a little time right now and dig through everything you can find online. For instance, you can go through an agency to find intended parents or you can post a free ad various places online.

Theres many issues you need to think about and have answers to before you do this: insurance, compensation, moral/religious issuses, number of embryos to transfer, etc. And is your husband comfortable with giving you the shots?

Also, are you going to be available to drop everything at school and leave town for a few days for the transfer? Do you have someone to watch your kids?

Tons of little things that add up.

Being a surrogate mother is a wonderful experience, and I highly recommend you do it. Just do the research first. Find out why you don't want to transfer 6 embryos, and why giving a shot in your leg is a bad idea, despite what the clinic nurses tell you.

Best wishes,

Hi! Thanks for commenting. I have done a lot of research. I am working with two agencies right now. I know my post came off like an advertisement but my plan was to talk to any responders and refer them to my profiles with the agencies.

Also its not that I haven't already decided to do this, it's just that my husband may have to be away but I won't know for sure until mid-August. I am waiting on that information before beginning.

So you have been a GS twice? How was it for you? I would love any advice you wanted to give. Again, thanks for commenting!

Is this still something that you are considering?

Not anymore. I am just too busy, plus I have gained weight so I doubt anyone would choose me.
